So this is depressing: Isabel Toledo, who designed Michelle Obama's 2009 inaugural dress and coat, has died of breast cancer. We're seeing photos of that day and are reminded of how upbeat everything felt then.
"Toledo gave voice to immigrants and women," reports The Washington Post. "She spoke for those who go
their own way and aim for success on their own terms — sometimes by
choice and sometimes because that is the only way possible. Toledo was
the first in a long line of designers whom Obama championed as first
lady — designers whose personal story said something about the breadth
of the American Dream."
Hang on, everyone. Sooner or later, the feelings that we had on January 20, 2009, will come back again. Until they do, we cats are tired of smart women dying too young of cancer, and we HISS.
