One of Benedict Donald's favorite ploys to inject his wacky thoughts into the media mainstream was to preface each with "People are saying..." or "Lots of people are..." You get the idea. Too often, it worked.
But now, Trump is defeated, out of the White House, and Twitter-less. So it's discouraging to see reporters adopting his tactics — especially those who have been the target of his previous racist insults.
In today's White House press conference, Weijia Jiang of CBS asked Biden press secretary Jen Psaki about immigration. But goodness gracious, how badly she phrased it. "A lot of Americans," she said, were concerned about immigrant "surges happening under President Biden's watch." WHUT?
Psaki nailed her. "Who are the Americans?" she asked. Jiang admitted she was quoting Trump. At which point Psaki proceeded to destroy her — and Trump — and any journalist who would resort to such lazy and dishonest framing.
We're sad to say that Jiang deserved the smackdown, particularly when she was the Asian-American reporter who tussled with Trump last May over COVID. "Ask China" about the virus, Trump told her, to which Jiang replied, "Why are you saying that to me, specifically?" Trump immediately cut the press conference off.
It was gutsy on Jiang's part. Why is she parroting Benedict Donald now? We cats HISS.
