"It's no worse than the flu," Trumpsters tried — and still try — to tell us, even after almost 550,000 deaths from COVID-19. It's as counterintuitive as Benedict Donald seeking credit for vaccine development and yet refusing to get the shot publicly himself. (Lots of deluded Trumpsters are refusing to get it at all.) It's government control and a Biden plot, they bleat. Freedom!
Tell that to the thousands of people who have tested positive and have neurological problems like blurred vision, brain fog, and even psychosis. One COVID patient, a former Marine, went completely paranoid. He thought federal agents were following him, that police scanners were reporting his every move, and that his neighbor's air vent was a submarine periscope. He's making a slow recovery but has been hospitalized in a psycho ward twice.
When we read about folks like this, we are completely befuddled about why Republicans are so cavalier about this damn virus. Who wants to chance stuff like this? Who even wants to lose their senses of smell and taste for weeks and months at a time? It sounds so depressing.
And who wants to risk ending up like Kent Taylor, the founder of the Texas Roadhouse restaurant chain, who was so despondent about his long-COVID side effects that he killed himself last week?
Dude was being driven mad by incessant tinnitus. But sure, Greg Abbott, open Texas. We cats HISS.
