Willard Is Worried.

By Miss Kubelik

Willard "Mitt" Romney is spending a lot of time wringing his hands these days. How is he going to protect not just himself but his enormous Mormon family from Benedict Donald's "retribution" if Trump wins in November? "The Trump-era GOP’s perception of Romney as a devious traitor puts him in a precarious position," laments his obsequious biographer, McKay Coppins.

Gee. This is the same guy whom the January 6th MAGA mob would have torn apart, like something out of Suddenly, Last Summer, had Officer Eugene Goodman not directed him away. You'd think that he'd already know a close shave when he sees one, and would take some pre-emptive action instead of sitting around in his soon-to-be-empty Senate office, whining to Coppins.

Instead of cowering in fear for the next month, why doesn't Willard:

➤ Help elect Vice President Harris by endorsing her instead of, say, writing in Liz Cheney (which is as good as a vote for Trump)?

➤ Support Constitution-loving Democrats running against MAGAts in flippable House seats so that when it comes time to certify the 2024 election results, a Democratic majority can ensure that the people's will is heard?

➤ Put, say, $20 million of his own money into his PAC and use it to flip a state like Florida blue?

➤ Leave the Republican Party, declare himself an Independent, and caucus with the Democrats for the next few months?

He won't do any of these things, of course. Because Willard always disappoints. Like his 2012 running mate, Paul Ryan, he is the emptiest of empty suits. Our schadenfreude is nice, but this is BS. As Michelle Obama so famously said, "Do something." We cats HISS.

They All Knew.

By Zamboni

We cats read the Romney excerpt in The Atlantic today so you wouldn't have to. You're welcome.

It's a trip down bad memory lane with the usual cast of unsavory Republican characters, plus a dash of gratuitous Willard adoration thrown in. (Ick.) But Mitch McConnell, Lady Lindsey, JD Vance, Paul Ryan, Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, and of course Benedict Donald must be all pretty steamed about the details. (Ryan in particular shows up as his old weaselly self, urging Willard to acquit Trump in the first impeachment.) Nobody comes off very well.

But probably unintentionally — since the writer, McKay Coppins, is a fellow Mormon and obvious Mitt fan — Willard doesn't, either. After all, there's no indication that Romney did anything after McConnell ignored his text about January 6.

So... you text McConnell that you're worried, and he doesn't reply? There are such things called telephones, which people can use to actually speak to one another. Or, failing that, Romney could have caught up with his leader in the hallway, or pulled him aside at a caucus meeting, or scheduled a one-on-one. Instead, the Capitol was indeed stormed, and cops were mauled within an inch of their lives. (Ironic since it was a Capitol Police officer, Eugene Goodman, who saved Romney's life by directing him away from the Trumpy mob.)

You can just imagine how Officers Goodman, Gonell, Fanone, Dunn and Hodges reacted to this when they heard. But then, Willard never fails to disappoint, does he? We cats HISS.

GOP Burned

By Baxter

Apparently it takes a bunch of sick and dying veterans sitting on the steps of the Capitol for six days and a furious Jon Stewart trashing them on all channels (including Fox and Newsmax) to force Republican Senators to cave and vote once again for the PACT Act.

Well, most of them, anyway. We've seen reports that the 11 burn-pit "no" votes were Crapo, Lankford, Lee, Lummis, Paul, Risch, Romney, Shelby, Tillis, Toomey and Tuberville. That's down from the 41 who voted in a hissy fit to kill the bill last week. (And it's another reminder that yes, Willard Mitt Romney continues to be terrible, and thank God he didn't get elected President in 2012.)

So we don't understand what any of this accomplished for the Republican Party — except to rile up another key constituency that they'll need in the fall and to be subjected to constant humiliation from Jon Stewart, who is — sorry, Senator Toomey — definitely not a "pseudo-celebrity." Jon has 1.5 million followers on Twitter. Toomey, 193,000.

And it may also have stirred the pot — and not in a good way for the GOP — on the race to choose Toomey's successor in the Senate. We trust John Fetterman will know how to keep Pennsylvanians damn mad about it, and that "Dr." Oz will be clueless as to how to defend it.

As for the rest of the 11 GOP deplorables, at least they stuck to their awfulness, unlike their colleagues who, after getting relentlessly pounded over it, voted for the same bill they opposed last week. It's hard to know who's worse. We cats HISS.

Trump Chickens Out

By Baxter

We cats can think of five reasons Benedict Donald has canceled his January 6 "press conference":

His lawyers-slash-advisers — assuming he has anyone with any smarts or credibility in his inner circle these days — told him it would be a really stupid, self-incriminating idea.

The celebrities he invited to stand with him and make it a star-studded event said they weren't interested (or were otherwise engaged).

Folks in the media said they wouldn't cover it live.

Ronna ROMNEY McDaniel told him that if he said anything self-incriminating, the RNC would stop paying his legal fees. Not likely, but interesting.

The Hannity thing has spooked him. We cats PURR.

Bunker Boy's Not Like Ike

Nifty new Lincoln Project ad highlighting the 34th President (a Republican who would not recognize his party today). Also worth noting: This afternoon, Willard Mitt Romney marched with 1,000 Christian activists outside the White House in support of Black Lives Matter. What in the world is going on? We cats PURR.

Life Is Complicated When You Lack A Backbone

By Hubie and Bertie

Lisa Murkowski is "struggling." She believes that former SecDef James Mattis spoke the truth about Benedict Donald in The Atlantic, but she's just not sure if she won't still support Trump in November.

Puh-leeese. Here we thought that with things being so terrible, Murkowski might harbor a little bit of Mary-Tyler-Moore-style spunk — after all, she's not up for re-election this year. But she's wringing her hands like Susan Collins instead. Even so, few of her Senate colleagues are rushing to join her in defending Mattis (except for GOP Chair Ronna Romney's uncle Willard). Conclusion: Don't expect cowed and craven Republicans to grow spines any time soon.

Will "soon" ever come? It's a good question. These Republican weenies always have one eye on the polls and another on the calendar. Right now, there are two dates that are probably looming large in their minds: their respective primary deadlines, and the Republican convention in late August.

Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse, for example, did not proffer his meekly negative criticism of Trump until after he was past his primary. Others no doubt will follow suit. And none of them want to have the rabid MAGAts booing their names at the non-socially-distant 2020 haters' convention (wherever it's held), and planning social media and in-person protests in their home states this fall.

But here's their dilemma: If GOP Senators wait until after Labor Day to distance themselves from Trump, that'll be too late to deceive voters. And how will the RNC react? By cutting off their campaign funds?

That's what they're struggling about. Money, not morals. We cats HISS.

Poll Cats

By Miss Kubelik

Ironic that the Republicans were so exercised over the Benghazi death of a US Ambassador — about whom they could not possibly have cared less, by the way — that they held billions of hearings behind closed doors about it, only opening those doors when they sat Hillary Clinton down for 11 hours of testimony on national TV.

But in reality, they're the ones who "kill" ambassadors. Just read Marie Yovanovitch's October 11 transcript and you'll see that when the Trumpsters unceremoniously yanked from her posting in Ukraine, she felt personally threatened and concerned for her safety. Wow.

More transcripts will be released tomorrow. Meanwhile, Pundit World is yapping about a set of New York Times/Siena College polls that show Benedict Donald as far from dead in six battleground states: Arizona, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Everyone's a little shocked — how could the guy who's getting impeached, and who just got booed at the World Series and the UFC in one week be so competitive?

We have a few thoughts about that.

Except for Biden, voters don't really know much about the prospective Democrats yet. Also, these polls only look at six states. What about the ones Trump claims he can flip — Minnesota, Colorado, New Mexico, New Hampshire, Virginia? And what about polls in states like Georgia, Texas and Iowa, which are much closer than they were three years ago?

The Times/Siena folks should re-poll after more Ukraine-gate revelations come to light. (On that note, news flash: Lev Parnas, one of Giuliani's Keystone Kop conspirators, has decided to cooperate with impeachment investigators. Whoops!) In the meantime, we're focused on the fact that Trump's approval rating has never gone above 50 percent, that those who strongly disapprove of him far outweigh those who approve, and that he "won" in 2016 with fewer popular votes than Willard Mitt Romney got in 2012.

And then there's the aforementioned Virginia. Let's see what happens there tomorrow, and then we'll revisit whether Benedict Donald will be able to flip it next year. We cats say, fat chance. And we PURR.

Let's Start The Romney Rumors

By Baxter

Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin, who will surely go back to being a pain in the ass once the Trump nightmare is over, has made a suggestion: The GOP should nominate Willard "Mitt" Romney in 2020.

"If Trump is forced out or forced not to run for re-election, Romney would be an excellent choice for Republicans desperate to eradicate Trump’s stain on the party," she wrote yesterday.

We cats are all for this. It's hard to think of a quicker way for the Republican Party to commit hara-kiri than to renominate its losing candidate from 2012. And not just because we remember Willard's extensive limitations — "47 percent," the 20-car elevator garage, the prancing ponies, that annoying, elitist wife who uses language like "you people"... Don't get us started.

Thing is, do you know how many factions of the GOP would erupt in rage at the prospect of a Willard Walk-on?

Obviously, the addle-brained Benedict Donald base would immediately start picking up their guns and revving their motorcycles, ready to ring the White House and defend their god. We know from old posts by our friends the Freepers how much those guys revile Romney. So, peel them away immediately.

Then there are the evangelicals, who adore Trump even though he's cheated on all three wives and has paid for who knows how many abortions. A good chunk of them would revolt just because their right-wing-judge-appointing hero has been impeached or dumped. They're not going to forget Romney's criticisms of Trump, no matter how tacit (which, as we know, is Willard's way).

Add in the other chunk of evangelicals who are deeply suspicious of the Mormon faith. It's the one thing we have in common with them, although for different reasons.

The only Republicans Romney would appeal to are the shrinking class of inside-the-Beltway pundits like Rubin, superrich corporate donors, Wall Streeters, foreign policy wonks and leftover Bushies (George Senior/Junior and Jeb acolytes) who dream of returning to "good old days" that were, TBH, not that good for the rest of us. Although dumping Donald and enraging the Trump base may spell problems for George P. Bush's political career down the road... so, it's complicated.

It all sounds great to us. A nominate-Romney scenario could not only tear the GOP apart but spur a true-believer Trumpster candidate to run as a third-party spoiler. (Maybe Benedict Donald himself, who knows?) Anyway, what's not to love? We cats PURR.

Mitt Romney Is Very Concerned.

By Baxter

Leaving out a crowd of Trumpsters, of course, there is perhaps no group more repulsive than the Republican caucus in the United States Senate.

America has rarely seen such a gaggle of milksops, cowards and quislings — every one of them utterly unprincipled. #MoscowMitch is by far the worst, but folks like Lady Lindsey Graham, Baby Marco Rubio and Ron Johnson give him plenty of competition. (Johnson, it seems, learned that Benedict Donald was committing impeachable offenses some time ago, and didn't tell anybody. Nice!)

They're so bad, in fact, that Willard Mitt Romney is emerging as a shining star — or at least as someone who's willing to speak out (if gingerly) on Trump's treason. Shaking down Ukraine's President — "by all appearances," Willard cautions, giving himself an out just in case — was "wrong" and "appalling." Stand back, everyone, Mitt Romney is appalled!

We probably shouldn't come down too hard on Willard, though — we need to give him some room to criticize Trump so others of his caucus (besides Ben Sasse) may follow. We chalk it up to the fact that his unctuousness still manages to grate, even after all these years.

What mystifies us is why Romney refuses to blister the Twittersphere with a ton of "I told you so's." Remember how back in 2012 he said Russia was America's most dangerous enemy, and everybody (including us) laughed at him? That he doesn't scream about this today is just more proof that he's an incurable poltroon. Well, at least he managed to get a furious rise out of his party's leading traitor. We cats HISS.

Ebenezer Trump

By Sniffles

Before he took off for Vietnam today, President Bone Spurs decided to tweet rudely about a former US Senator who is entering the final stages of his battle with pancreatic cancer. True to form, the tweet was childish and laden with lies. We're sure that Harry Reid, the Fightin' Mormon, just brushed it off with a roll of his remaining good eye.

But Trump's inability to resist attacking a man with a life-limiting illness is just so par for the course. And his minions are no better: Remember when the team at FOX "News" "accidentally" reported that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg had died? RBG happens to be doing a Jimmy Carter on her cancer at the moment, but the wingnuts, salivating at the thought of another SCOTUS seat, couldn't help themselves.

Trump's misanthropy may be the worst the Oval Office has ever seen. We don't know what darkness lurked in the hearts of the Presidents before him (most of them are dead). But we're confident that it will catch up with him when he encounters the dying of the light.

That's because we still believe that you get what you dish out. So unlike the outpourings of sympathy we've seen for Harry Reid, we can't exactly picture a nation prostrate at the thought of an imminent Trump demise. It's also hard to imagine anyone other than his gangster family — those who aren't in prison, at least — holding vigil at his bedside.

"Why wasn't he more natural in his lifetime?" Mrs. Dilber asked of Ebenezer Scrooge. "If he had been, he'd have had somebody to look after him when he was struck with Death, instead of lying gasping out his last there, alone." We cats HISS.

Final Days?

By Baxter

We cats fully expect the Trump saga to grind on for some time, but — goodness gracious. Today's panel discussions on the pundithead shows sure felt like August 1974. Trump's been rebuked by the Senate over Saudi Arabia, he was bitch-slapped by a 78-year-old grandmother in front of the whole world (which was his fault, by the way), his attorney's getting hauled off to the hoosegow (and maybe dragging him with him), and now the feds are investigating his Inaugural committee. And we haven't even gotten to Maria Butina and the shutdown yet.

So Benedict Donald didn't show up to work yesterday. (Can you imagine the reaction on the right if Obama had done that?) And today he gave a shaky interview to — who else? — FOX "News," in which he spread more lies and managed to raise more questions than he answered.

Clearly Trump is feeling the heat, so how is the rest of the Republican Party doing?

For example, with the Benedict Donald sh*tstorm raging on so many fronts, we have RNC chairwoman Ronna ROMNEY McDaniel on our minds. You have to raise a lot of money when you're in an important position like party chair. Are any deep-pocket donors taking her calls for Trump's 2020 re-election campaign? That can't be fun.

Then there's our Congresswoman, Elise Stefanik. She was charged with increasing female representation in the House Republican caucus, but after the Blue Wave was embarrassed to see it drop to 13. Not 13 percent. Thirteen women. So now she's distancing herself from the RCCC and is focusing her efforts on recruiting Republican women to run in 2020 through her own "leadership" PAC. Gee! We wonder how her outreach to potential candidates is going. How many are telling her they're no longer Republicans?

Mind you, we're not feeling sorry for any Republicans these days. There's no sign of a 2018 version of Barry Goldwater, John Rhodes or Hugh Scott striding up to the White House to tell Trump he's finished. The GOP tied its fortunes to this grade-Z mobster — so when we contemplate the end of Donald Trump, we also have to wonder about the party that was crass, weak, frightened, opportunistic and treasonous enough to nominate him. It may be their Final Days, too. We cats HISS.

P.S. That Makes All Three Trump Marriages "Convenient Transactions"

By Sniffles

Gee, Mia Love just showed Donald Trump no love.

In the Utah Republican's concession speech — in which she finally admitted she'd lost her House seat by 700 votes — Love took Trump to task for violating Ronald Reagan's 11th commandment.

"The President’s behavior towards me made me wonder: What did he have to gain by saying such a thing about a fellow Republican? This gave me a clear vision of his world as it is," she added. "No real relationships, just convenient transactions."

Well, brava, Mia — but you're two years too late. We cats wonder: What would have happened if she had declared her disgust with Trump sooner? On the other hand, this year more than 30 Republicans chose to retire rather than run with Trump looming in the background. Or, they ran and lost because of him.

Two questions come to mind:

Will any punditheads observe that no other Republicans have had the guts to do what Love did? (Although, as we've already noted, she was late. But it still beats not at all.)

Will the press ask Utah Senator-elect Willard Romney to comment on Love's speech? Because she also slammed the party he headed in 2012 for turning off minorities. "We feel like politicians claim they know what’s best for us from a safe distance," she said. "Yet they are never willing to take us home." We can only imagine how vilely the teabaggers are trashing Love online right now. And we HISS.

Willard Is Still The Worst

By Miss Kubelik

On the one hand, we cats need to thank Willard Mitt Romney for handing Democrats a great 2018 campaign ad today. What could drive more of us to the polls more effectively than a prediction that we're in for six more years of Donald Drumpf? (Mia Love, who has a tough re-election fight in her Utah Congressional district, must be furious.)

But Willard is still just a disgusting piece of you-know-what. His behavior lately has reminded us how spot-on we were in 2012 to despise him as a phony and a knave. Even when he was declaring back then that it was Russia that posed the greatest threat to the national security of the United States.

Turns out he was right about that. But we hesitate to give him any credit — because of his silence now.

Drumpf has just announced that he thinks his good buddy Vlad Putin should be let back into the G7. Mind you, the Western democracies kicked Russia out after its annexation of Crimea in 2014. But that doesn't matter to Drumpf: Putin has something on him that makes him do Russia's bidding.

And from the Republicans? Not a peep — not even from Willard.

It is very, very bad for the United States to be isolated from its allies, and very, very good for Russia to have us fighting with them. How fast is Ronald Reagan spinning in his grave? (And how quickly will Drumpf invite the Russian-born captain of the Washington Capitals and his Stanley Cup-winning teammates to the White House?) Until we hear the GOP and, especially, Willard Mitt Romney, speaking out about this — let's just say it — treason, we cats HISS.

We Could Really Use A Man Of Steel About Now

By Miss Kubelik

To the list of all the horrible things Donald Trump is, add mass murderer. He has now killed the same number of people that Stephen Paddock did in Las Vegas last fall.

How's that, you may ask? Easy-peasy. No US embassy in Jerusalem, no protesters, no Israeli soldiers opening fire on them. Fifty-eight dead, all because of Donald Trump.

This is a really good day to avoid the news. It's too depressing and infuriating, what with this insane embassy move and the Iran nuclear deal and gas prices going through the roof and Margot Kidder dying. It's so bad that even the plucky Lois Lane couldn't take it any more!

So we cats are going to go burrow under a cozy blanket until some better news comes along. But not before we take a parting shot at Willard Mitt Romney, who tweeted great umbrage about that anti-Mormon, anti-Semitic and anti-Muslim pastor who spoke at the embassy opening today. Willard, who practically groveled to Donald Trump to be his Secretary of State! It all makes us want to hack up a hairball, but instead we'll just HISS.

Utah's Political Winds Might Surprise Everyone.

By Zamboni

After a whirlwind and not-a-little-embarrassing courtship, Orrin Hatch has refused Donald Trump's overtures and will retire from the Senate after all. We assume he'll do this without getting Congress to renew CHIP. (Screw all those kids with cancer!)

And of course the lazy media have proclaimed that Hatch's decision "opens the way" for Willard Mitt Romney to claim the seat. Now, we're not totally against Willard making the move, although Brian Fallon makes a good point about failed Presidential candidates and knitting. The GOP's 2012 nominee certainly has the potential to drive Trump even crazier than he already is — but none of us should assume that this race is Willard's for the taking.

Here's why:

1) Even with a Romney candidacy, there likely will be a Republican primary. No telling what will happen there.

2) The Democrats already have two credible candidates. In short, we're not ceding this seat just because it's Utah.

3) The Mitch McConnell-Steve Bannon war, kinda quiet since the Roy Moore debacle last month, will flame anew. Both will drop zillions of dollars into this race: Mitch because he can't afford to lose Utah the way he lost Alabama, and Bannon because he needs a win in one of the reddest red states.

So, bottom line: Assume nothing. It's 2018, with a blue wave on the way. And does the Hatch announcement portend more GOP retirements as members trudge back to Congress this week? We cats PURR.

P.S. Speaking of elections to watch, check out US House District 12 in Florida: Democrat Chris Hunter has declared he'll run against Republican six-termer Gus Bilirakis. What's so special? Hunter is a former FBI agent. Who'da thought that if a Bureau veteran ran, he'd be on the Democratic side? Could this have anything to do with Trump's Russia infatuation and his attacks on Comey, Mueller and Wray? We cats PURR again.

Counting Noses

By Sniffles

Team Trump has gone back and forth a few times on this "what-did-Trump-know-that-Michael-Flynn-did" matter when Trump "fired" Flynn on February 13. This is dicey for them, because as we all know, Trump met with then-FBI director James Comey on February 14 and asked that the Bureau stop pursuing Flynn.

After a self-incriminating Trump tweet that "lawyer" John Dowd later claimed to have written, Dowd has now decided to say that yes, Trump knew about Flynn lying to the FBI as well as to Mike Pence, but that's okay because a President cannot obstruct justice.

Hm. Interesting notion, that. We can hear Richard Nixon screaming from the grave right now.

Anyway, here's our take on all this: Trump screwed up, not just this but a whole bunch of Russia-related things, and he knows how much hot water he's in. We're not saying he totally understands it — just that he gets enough of it to be counting impeachment votes in the Senate.

How do we know? Easy-peasy. Why else would he be pressuring the 83-year-old Utah Senator Orrin Hatch to run for re-election again, and thus deny Willard Mitt Romney a shot at his seat? Hatch would be a "NO" vote on impeachment. Romney would be a "YES." We cats HISS and PURR at the same time.

Where's Willard?

By Zamboni

Remember back in 2012, when Willard Mitt Romney called Russia our nation's "number-one geopolitical foe," and everybody laughed at him? Goodness gracious — even our own Democratic President ridiculed the idea.

So after James Comey's testimony to the House Intelligence Committee today, why isn't Willard taking a victory lap?

Gosh! The director of the FBI has just confirmed that the bureau is actively investigating whether the Trump campaign's colluded with Russia to undermine our democracy. This sounds like treason. Yet the only thing that the Republicans have ever cared about is Hillary Clinton's emails. (Oh, and Benghazi — about which she testified to Congress for 11 hours and those GOP jackasses still couldn't lay a glove on her.)

If there's possible treason here at the behest of the dictatorship that Willard called our greatest foe, why isn't he calling a press conference to say "told ya so"? We cats can only come up with one answer, and it's not pretty: Willard is silent because the fraudulent President at the center of this nightmare is a Republican.

Drumpf is also someone who insulted Romney left and right during the campaign — and then humiliated him with that fake, oh-maybe-I'll-put-you-in-my-Cabinet meeting in November. But affronts to Mitt's manhood apparently pale in comparison with his loyalty to the GOP.

If anybody out there can think of another reason, we're all ears. But we won't hold our breath. It seems clear that Willard Mitt Romney is what we always thought he was: a phony, whiny, party-before-country, cowardly wanker. We cats HISS.

Freudian Slip

By Zamboni

During this hideous transition that we cats have been striving to ignore, one thing that has managed to permeate our fog of denial is how many people have met with The New Worst Person Who's Ever Lived — thinking, apparently, that they could reason with him or get him to offer a job — and then been publicly, Trumpily repudiated or humiliated. President Gore? Played. Bob Corker? Played. Harold Ford? Played. Cathy McMorris Rodgers? Played. Heidi Heitkamp? Probably played. (And richly deserves to be.)

But no one has been more played than Willard Mitt Romney, omg.

We cats had idly hoped that, after the disaster that was November 8, Willard might turn out to have a manly man hiding inside that irritatingly awkward, aw-shucks Mormon-y exterior. Why not? Who had criticized Drumpf more than Romney had this year? His "con man" speech last spring was searing, biting, dead on — dare we say irredeemable? We instantly thought at the time that Ann had written it, but we never doubted that Willard believed it. Gosh, we thought — he might have some cojones after all.

Fast forward to today, and Willard has been embarrassed beyond belief over the Secretary of State thing, as the whole world and possibly parts of the unexplored galaxy now know. We'd wonder how Ann feels about this excruciatingly public take-down, except... we don't have to.

In a letter to The Salt Lake Tribune, Willard has tried to explain the whole debacle. But even there, he's stumbled. Protesting that offering himself up was all part of serving the nation he loves, he made a super-telling grammatical error:

"As the country's next President, I earnestly hope that [Drumpf] will be successful in..." blah blah blah.

("As the country's next President, I"??? Hilarious.)

Oh, Willard, Willard, Willard. Perhaps while ducking the plates that Ann is throwing, you can get her to pitch a primer on pronoun-antecedent agreement at your head. In the meantime, let's just say that by meeting with Drumpf, Willard Mitt Romney abandoned all pretense of ever having balls. We cats HISS.

While Bernie Bites The Bullet, Jeb Is Sad. Will The Press Notice?

By Zamboni

Bernie Sanders will endorse Hillary Clinton today. And we cats can just hear the bleatings of Pundit World now.

Will Bernie have been effusive enough? Will he have said all the right things, in every possible way? Will he leave any outs that his most ardent supporters can latch onto and thus stubbornly refuse to join the Clinton train? Oh, that Bernie — isn't he cranky, competitive and endearing?

Meanwhile, none of them — and we mean none — will compare the Sanders endorsement to the very, very, very pointed non-endorsements that the Republican field has given to Donald Drumpf.

Jeb! Bush did it just last night, for heaven's sake. In an interview with the previously Palin-persecuted, now MSNBC talking head Nicolle Wallace, Bush said "I'll be worried" if the Republican ticket wins in the fall.

But it's not just Bush. Unlike Sanders on the Democratic side, you could say — and the media today could point out — that former 2016 contenders John Kasich, Ted Cruz and Lady Lindsey Graham have all refused to come to Jesus on their nominee.

You could also say — and the media could point out — that former Republican nominees Willard Mitt Romney and John McCain have either publicly slammed Trump or given a tortured, tepid endorsement. And you could also say — and the media could point out — that former Republican Presidents have wrung their hands and expressed their concern. How many former Democratic Presidents have refused to support Hillary Clinton? Hm.

Naturally, the pundits will not say any of this when they provide "fair and balanced" coverage of today's event and sift through the embers of the Sanders campaign. But they should. We cats HISS.
