State Of The Senate

By Hubie and Bertie

It's good to see polls like the recent one out of Fox News (yep, Fox News) that has Ruben Gallego leading Trumpy nutzypants Kari Lake in the Arizona Senate race by 13 points. We cats are still going to send Ruben some money (and if you're planning to do so, too, remember that the end of the quarter is Monday, September 30). After all, if Vice President Harris wins the Presidency in November, governing will be a heckuva lot easier for her with a Democratic Senate.

For your contributing convenience, we posted our list of key 2024 Senate races last weekend. It still goes. But there also are some states outside the usual swing-state suspects of Arizona, Montana, Ohio, et. al., that might be worth paying attention to.

Already mentioned are Texas, Nebraska, and Florida, and polls in all three states are intriguing, to say the least. They have Colin Allred beating Rafael Cruz, Deb Fischer ahead of Dan Osborn, and Debbie Mucarsel-Powell and Rick Scott separated by a single point. One point in ruby-red Nebraska? Not to mention the others. Red alert, Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee, red alert!

Now add the Show Me State to the list of potential GOP worries. We'd always considered our Senatorial nominee Lucas Kunce there a valiant but lost cause — but in an internal Democratic poll, he's only trailing insurrectionist and famed jogger Josh Hawley by four. And like Florida, abortion is on the ballot in Missouri.

So, okay, it's a single internal poll. But what the dickens. We sure hope Chuck Schumer has a stash of cash to throw into late-breaking races in Texas, Nebraska, Florida and Missouri. We cats PURR.
