Chris Cillizza of The Washington Post reports that the McCain campaign has pulled down its ads in the state of Michigan.
Aha. We cats were wondering when the "McCain pulls out of" stories would begin.
After all, we've seen a small flurry of articles about Senator Obama abandoning states like, say, North Dakota, and moving his staff there to Minnesota — or, scaling back his efforts in Georgia. But both North Dakota and Georgia are deeply red states with which the Obama campaign was toying — sort of like us with a catnip mouse. They are not a huge battleground like Michigan — one which McCain boasted at one point that he could win.
Two thoughts strike us.
First, less than two hours from the Vice Presidential debate, we wonder how Republicans feel now about Senator McCain passing over the Michigan-born Governor Romney as a running mate.
Second, while we find it significant that McCain pulled the Michigan plug before this evening's Biden-Palin smackdown, at the same time we also understand. Perhaps fewer people will notice the abandonment of the Wolverine State in all the excitement about tonight.
Well, sorry, Senator McCain, but we noticed. And we PURR at your predicament. Sorry if we seem mean-spirited, but heck, the future of the country is at stake.
