Does Bush WANT McCain to Win?

By Sniffles

We cats suspect maybe not.

As Gail Collins points out in her New York Times column today, Bush stepped all over McCain this week on the offshore drilling thing.

Here was the hapless Senator from Arizona — a state completely bordered by land, we must note — trying to be a change leader and further cement his completely undeserved reputation as a maverick (or maybe just a new one as a flip-flopper), and distance himself from the Bush Administration at the same time.

And no sooner does he come out and reverse himself on offshore drilling than the Worst President Ever pops out like an ugly ghoul in Disney's Haunted Mansion and steals his thunder. "Time for Congress to lift the ban on offshore drilling!" Smirky chirps, thus entwining his position and McCain's together in voters' minds like sticky black tar.

Never mind that lifting the near-30-year ban will do nothing to improve gas prices until, oh, 2030.

Since we can't fathom any of this stupidity — including the subsequent, similar flip-flopping of the veep-wannabe Florida Governor — we cats curl up in a ball and take a nap.

I’m sure many recall that in 1999 McCain was well on h is way to
Presidential nominee until Karl Rove fell hopelessly in love with George Bush and cuddled him into the White House along with a VP so unappealing that there was no chance of emotional infidelity. So, of course, George doesn't want John McCain to win, but for different reasons from the rest of us. He’s terrified that McCain will shine (not a chance) or achieve where he failed (again, not a chance). He would much rather sit at home in front of the what he probably calls the plasmic TV choking on pretzels and renewing his drinking career watching the new president dodging the slings and arrows that he believes will come Obama’s way. Once he sees how quickly our nation and the world embraces the effective and good-hearted Obamas, he’ll wish Grandpa McCain had won and—come February—not send Rove a valentine.

Can’t realistically imagine McCain selecting anyone other than Palin as his Veep!

Alaska Gov Sarah Palin.

And, Mac should Pick Palin 4 Veep BEFORE Hil Campaigns w/Obama!

In addition to her overwhelming attraction on the oil/energy issue and the female/disaffected Hillary voters, her human interest story will generate millions and millions of dollars worth of publicity and media coverage — essentially free to the McCain campaign — more than offsetting Obama’s reported money advantage.

Ah, we see, now. We thought that since Senator McCain was making campaign stops in foreign countries these days that he was considering a British man as a running mate!
