Watching the new multi-episode HBO documentary about President Obama is eye-opening in a lot of ways. How young and thin everyone looked in 2004 and 2008! (Except for Joe Biden, who since then has gotten more slender and fit.)
You also see and hear stuff that might not have struck you back then, but that sure resonates now. Take this little nugget of campaign-trail wisdom from Sarah Palin, who at the time was deeply into her bogus "Obama is palling around with terrorists" attack mode:
"Turns out one of Barack’s earliest supporters is a man who, according to The New York Times...was a domestic terrorist and part of a group that, quote, 'launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and the US Capitol.' Wow."
"Wow," indeed! Who would want to pal around with anyone who would attack the Capitol? We cats HISS.
