It's been a stressful month. But then, that's August for you. Any month in which Gulf War I started, the atomic bombs got dropped, and Elvis checked out is always going to be hinky.
But we cats never expected to end August suddenly agreeing with a bunch of nutcase Republicans. Yet, it's happened.
Ann Coulter is tweeting thanks to Joe Biden and lobbing insults at The Former Guy over Afghanistan. "Trump REPEATEDLY demanded that we bring our soldiers home, but only President Biden had the balls to do it," she declared. "Thank you, President Biden, for fulfilling one of Trump's many broken promises." Yeah, we can't believe it either.
And Ron Johnson is blaming Benedict Donald — not conspiracy theories, bamboo-laced ballots or rigged voting machines — for TFG's loss in Wisconsin in 2020. Trump failed to carry the state, Johnson said in a burst of unaccustomed lucidity, "because 51,000 Republicans didn't vote for him." Amazing!
Then there's this mea culpa from former GOP Congressman Joe Walsh: "I helped radicalize the Republican Party base. And for that, I am profoundly sorry. And I am dedicating the rest of my active life to do what I can to deradicalize them."
Good luck with that, Joe. If Representative Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) is any measure, you have your work cut out for you. (Unless Cawthorn's just trying to make us feel better that we're represented by Trumpy turncoat Elise Stefanik.) We cats HISS.
