Injection Insurrection

By Zamboni

We cats haven't been able to visit Montreal for a year, for obvious reasons. But we keep tabs. Today we learned from a writer we like from The Montreal Gazette that a big crowd turned out for COVID shots at a sprawling shopping development just outside of town.

Turnout was so high, and the weather so nippy, that officials had to ask people to go warm up in their cars and get back into line in 45 minutes. But our writer friend persevered, and got the AstraZaneca vaccine. "If I grow a third arm I'll let you know," he said.

Montrealers are smarter than 25 percent of Congress. That's how many members in both houses are saying they won't get the vaccine. While the occasional member is claiming a legitimate medical exemption, see if you can guess which party the hardcore refusniks belong to.

Our take? Unless a Senator or Representative has a note from his or her doctor, that member should be refused access to the floor — as well as to the gym, locker rooms, cafeterias and other places they could spread the plague. If they can't handle those rules (like the metal detectors that GOP gun lovers refuse to walk through), they should hand in their resignations and go home.

This doesn't solve any problems for their staffs, alas — who, because their salaries are pretty low for Washington, are probably living with roommates or family, and who have to work daily in the cramped office space that Capitol Hill is so famous for. We'd advise those young Republicans to quit their jobs — or switch parties and work for someone who cares about their health. We cats HISS.
