Remember how the Former Guy used to always tout his approval numbers with Republicans? He used to lie a lot about them, too. Maybe he still does it, who knows? It's hard to keep track these days, and that's a pleasure.
Now Benedict Donald must be looking upon President Joe Biden's high marks in the latest ABC News/Ipsos poll with a combination of envy and rage. Sixty-eight percent of respondents approve of Biden's handling of the pandemic, including 35 percent of Republicans. Ha! It also includes a lot of Democrats — 98 percent of them. (Gee, when Trump lied about his GOP ratings, it was only 94. Ha! again.)
Biden's been President for about 46 days, and he's on the verge of signing the most humongous stimulus bill ever, with stuff in it that Democrats have been wanting to do for simply ages. Pretty amazing for a guy with only a 50-50 Senate — but it's clear he's learned from the watered-down stimulus that Barack Obama was forced to accept with a much-larger majority. And a guy who was in the Senate himself for 36 years knows how the place works.
In so many ways, Joe Biden is perfect for this moment. No doubt we'll keep finding out, as time passes and people fill in the colorful, behind-the-scenes details, exactly how perfect. We cats PURR.
