"We Did It Before And We Can Do It Again"

By Baxter

You've got to love that Defense Production Act — when a President has the brains enough to use it.

Joe Biden has the brains. (Benedict Donald didn't.) Biden has also called upon FEMA, the National Guard, and other resources of the federal government to get the COVID-19 vaccines produced and distributed. Today, he announced that the country will be able to vaccinate everyone by the end of May, two months ahead of schedule.

See? Americans can get stuff done when we put our minds to it! In the age of COVID, you really do want to hear the words "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help." (Sorry, Ronald Reagan, wherever in Hell you are.)

This heartening development is only slightly tempered by the terrible news that two red states, Texas and Mississippi, are opening up and lifting all mask requirements — an incredibly stupid thing to do as variants of the coronavirus continue to spread. The GOP's desire to kill its own voters is unfathomable. But maybe in Texas Governor Greg Abbott's case, he's seen how well that's worked in Florida for Ron DeSantis's Presidential aspirations.

Gosh, the Republican 2024 field is crowded. And we don't even know if Benedict Donald will be in it or not. (Our prediction: Not.) But speaking of Trump, we're coming up fast on the one-year anniversary of his infamous March 6 appearance at the CDC, when he said that "anybody" who wanted a coronavirus test could get one — a massive lie about a situation that Team Biden is still working hard to fix. There's always a ton of crap to clean up after Republican Administrations, but cleaning up after this one makes the aftermath of the 2008 financial meltdown look like a cakewalk. We cats HISS.
